House Concurrent Resolution 100
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING DR. DON Q. MITCHELL FOR HIS OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN THE FIELD OF MEDICINE.
WHEREAS, Dr. Don Q. Mitchell, an allergy and immunology specialist at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, has made outstanding contributions to the field of medicine throughout his career; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Mitchell, a resident of Jackson, Mississippi, was born on August 11, 1942, in Cleveland, Mississippi, and graduated from Cleveland High School in 1960; and
WHEREAS, after graduating from high school, Dr. Mitchell furthered his education at Millsaps College, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in biology, and he earned his doctor of medicine degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in 1967; and
WHEREAS, throughout his career, Dr. Mitchell's hospital appointments include Chief of Medicine, Medical Executive Committee, Chief of Allergy, Medical Education Committee, Respiratory Therapy Committee, Utilization Review Committee, Patient Education Committee and the Institutional Review Board, which were all at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Allergy and Immunology, Dr. Mitchell also is part of the consulting staff at St. Dominic's Hospital, Methodist Medical Center and River Oaks Hospital, and is a visiting teaching physician at the University Hospitals and Clinics; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Mitchell has served in various leadership positions of several professional organizations such as a delegate to the American Medical Association, former president of the Mississippi State Medical Association, former president of the Central Medical Society, president-elect of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and the Board of Governors for the American Association of Certified Allergists; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Mitchell has been the principal investigator for clinical research by the Mississippi Asthma and Allergy Clinic, which has conducted nearly 50 research projects, and he has written eleven publications addressing various medical issues; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by outstanding physicians such as Dr. Don Q. Mitchell, whose long and distinguished career has touched the lives of so many patients:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Dr. Don Q. Mitchell for his outstanding accomplishments in the field of medicine and extend to him our heartiest wishes for many years of success in all his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dr. Don Q. Mitchell and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
